Samui Back From The Black

Category: Tourism, Posted:07 Dec 2012 | 08:24 am

Media reports have confirmed that power has been restored to the resort island of Samui after massive blackout disrupted electricity for three days.
The islands of Samui and Koh Phangan had been declared a disaster area by the Surat Thani Provincial government on Thursday according to the Bangkok Post.
We spoke to hoteliers on the island today who said business was slowly getting back to normal after the underwater cable, which supplies power to Samui, was cut-off on Tuesday.
A number of hotels have back-up generators but fuel has been running scarce and mobile phone service was an issue given many residents did not have access to power.
For now the tourism trade is addressing the backlog of visitors, and working to clarify the situation on the ground to its travel partners.
