One of the key emerging areas of interest in South East Asia is the Mergui Archipelago and the Burma Banks.

But as in all things, you can only stay there, if you can get there.

While the Southern area of Myanmar with it's many islands offers limited access, the natural key point is for visitors to fly into Phuket.

From there, Phang Nga is a natural bridge to the area by sea.

Earlier this year the Thai government announced plans to start viewing the upgrading of two key ports in the area- Thap Lamu and Kuraburi.

As Khao Lak is continuing to evolve its position between Phuket and the Mergui seems a huge advantage in the long term development of tourism in Southern Myanmar.
