BALI BUZZ Miniskirts to Minimarts

Category: Tourism, Posted:30 Mar 2012 | 16:02 pm

Breakfast in Bali comes with news that a special government taskforce on pornography has come out publically and asked for a ban in miniskirts.
The Religious Affairs Minister has been quoted in the media as saying that skirts which come higher than the knee are pornographic and should be banned.
As I continue to read on I can't help but notice outside my cars window is an increasing stream of minimarts that would make even the 7-11 crazed island of Phuket seem like a drop in the bucket.
Despite outer provinces like Bali and Papua where other religious groups form a majority, the Islamic inspired ban is said to purportedly extend throughout the entire country.
It's been a hectic week in Indonesia, fever pitched demonstrations against a government mandated oil price increase on April 1st have led to violent demonstrations.
In Medan the international airport was shut down as a result of the chaotic flurry of opposition.
Democracy and the management of a multi-cultural and diverse religious groups is no easy feat.
Lets see how the miniskirt ban works out going forward, but perhaps they need to do something about the epidemic spread of the minimarts.
