Indochina's cultural tourism is surging with new emerging events such as regional film festivals.
The annual Luang Prabang event over the past few years has drawn strong interest from the international market.
Also the recently concluded Memory International Heritage Festival in Phnom Penh Cambodia featured famed French Actress Catherine Deneuve.
Within Asia the yearly Ubud Writers Festival has also been a draw card.
Phuket's love and hate affair with culture has had it's own ups and downs over the past decade with a distant memory of a failed film event.
Hopefully someone will catch the bug again and bring back some much-needed culture to the island.
