Days Of Wine and Moroseness

Category: , Posted:18 Oct 2009 | 09:04 am

The effects of global warming are not very much hitting home to iconic industries as reports of the past 5 years are showing increased temperatures year on year. Add to that the menace of heat waves and one of most susceptible industries is wine.
Concern is hitting home in France amongst others were experts have said that the alteration of traditional wines is already taking place. Wine producers have asked the French Government to cut carbon emissions by 40% over the medium term and pressure is mounting in related sectors.
Over in California similar changes have been occurring and the creation of larger vineyards in Oregon and Washington have proliferated in the march north to cooler climates especially for the popular pinot noir. It may not be too long till Alaska and Scandinavia jump into the trade in a bigger wave but for many they may then say what next? We seem to be running of space on the globe so perhaps it's better to work with what we have and address this with renewed urgency.
