End Or The Beginning For Beach Party Bingo

Category: Tourism, Posted:04 Dec 2015 | 06:00 am

If news reports are correct, it appears that Surin’s much vaunted beach clubs will disappear before the end of the year.

The local government is outspoken about returning the beaches to their previous state and pursuing a public beach policy going forward.

We’ve all heard this before so again, don’t ring the alarm bells just yet, but the tone has escalated to a dim roar this time out.

What about Phuket’s beach club scene, is this the end?

Unlikely in my analysis as the reality as anyone who has visited Asia’s most prolific beach clubs in Bali – Ku De Ta and Potato Head can attest, that being next to the beach on private land is a strong commercial proposition.

What is inevitable is that this island’s beach clubs will find new areas, be it Bangtao, Kamala, or Mai Khao where oceanfront land is available facing the sea.

Like Bali, Phuket’s clubs will move upward in scale and offering and at the end of the day, bigger and better venues will appear.

Island geography inevitably shifts and where will the next Surin beach scene be, if indeed the existing clubs are gone? I’ll leave you to think that one over.
