Japan Set To Compete With Phuket

With the recent news that Japan will be implementing visa-free travel soon for Thais, local tour operators are saying this may impact domestic tourism.
Given the strong baht, domestic buying power is strong and the overseas appeal of Brand Japan is strong.
Couple onto this movements in the regional low-cost airline sector and Phuket may have to compete with Japan to retain domestic market share.
Perhaps the most glaring example of this type of overseas shift is Australia where travelers are increasingly heading off abroad versus local holidays.
