Koh Maphrao Remains In The Dark

Category: , Posted:28 Oct 2012 | 08:58 am

While villagers on nearby Koh Lone are hailing news that the island will have it's own small hydroelectric power plant; Koh Maphrao continues to be shut out of the electricity equation.
On Koh Lone by the middle part of next year a hydro facility will provide low voltage power.
The Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency has funded the project which is highlighting the eco benefits in what may be a blueprint for other remote islands.
As for Koh Mapharo, which sits less than three kilometers by the way the crow flies from the Phuket Provincial Governor's office, islands continue to be in the dark over the lack of action over a promised electricity connection to the mainland.
Sadly it's a bit ironic to be oh so close but oh so far away.
