Mounting opposition by local residents and the tourism industry has pitted the proposed massive Krabi coal-fired plant against the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand.
Preliminary project tendering has been initiated with operations planning to commence in 2019.
The coastline both North and South of Krabi are heavily reliant on tourism and fishing, which are at odds with a industrial complex on this nature.
One of the conundrum's facing the government is increasing electricity usage in Southern Thailand and possible energy shortages on the horizon.
