LATEST MARKETSPEAK Urban Lingo's Third Place

Category: Hotels, Posted:25 Dec 2009 | 09:39 am

Our quest for hotels 2.0 buzzword bingo marketspeak had us looking at an article recently on the 'Hotels' webite has brought us to 'Third Place.' This somehow equates to the urban Starbucks model of socialization which brings people into public areas to work, create, meet, and conduct business all in an informal setting. I found an interesting article online titled 'Libraries with Latte – The New Third Place which talkes about the evolution of café society and credits the term to urban sociologist Ray Oldenberg who wrote the 1999 book 'A Great Good Place.'
Lifestyle and boutique hotel brands have quickly latched onto the concept living rooms, great rooms, dens and a plethora of market speak. Actually it's been the iconic Apple brands who have created a sensation with their interactive concept stores which have tapped in the cultural shift. So in a nutshell is this the death of the lobby or just an extreme makeover? Well for now the jury is still out on that one.
