The resignation of Maldivian Prime Minister Mohamed Nasheed and media reports of rising violence is casting a harsh light on the toursim industry.
With a reversal of fortune for the Islamic fundamentalist opposition who pushed forward a ban on resort spa and massage services, a large question mark is facing the country. It now appears they have a considerably stronger foothold.
For now international news lines are heating up as turmoil looks to be a short term game changer.
