MICHAEL SCHUMACHER RETURNS Christmas Musings From A Small Island

Category: Tourism, Posted:25 Dec 2009 | 16:53 pm

Now that we caught your attention yes Michael Schumacher is indeed returning to F1 in 2010, but this is still the year before and Christmas at that. After opening presents with the kids and doing at trying to cure an after eve hangover I did what many islanders do the world over and headed for the beach.
Sitting amongst the palms on Nai Thon beach, at one of those slightly well absolutely illegal structures watching the waves, sipping on my mango shake and dodging various bits of seafood thrown by my kids who were amped up from too much Christmas candy it indeed put perspective on Phuket life.
While tuk-tuks and black taxis prodded the street above, and yes those umbrella and sun lounger vendors were in abundance it was a calm, peaceful and Zen atmosphere. Friendly waiters, happy tourists, wonderful Thai food making the rounds. People ask what draws them to Phuket or Thailand for that matter and frankly speaking on a sunny Christmas day with clear blue skies and topaz water it doesn't get any better then this.
Lets leave the debates to next year on solving the world's problems and those of Phuket, take a moment out and be thankful for what we have in this unique spot of the world. I did see three wise men on Honda motorbikes and as for the braying of animals in the barn, we did hear soi dogs barking in the distance.
Phuket remains a great experience, with the people, and places often surprises use with the generosity, easy smiles and simple beauty around many a corner. For those of you here, take a break and live big, while for those abroad, get here when you can. Merry Christmas Michael Schumacher and to everyone else as well.
