Phuket Gazette Hard Copy Newspaper Says Goodbye

Author: Bill Barnett. Category: Tourism. Posted: 14th May 2017

Making news on the island is the Phuket Gazette who will stop publishing their hard copy newspaper at the end of May.

While the development is bittersweet, the reality of online media is a given.

In my time in Phuket since 2000, the paper was always a vast lifeline of local news and while it was not always the cup of tea for everyone, in my opinion the service to the community was outstanding.

As a columnist with my first editor Alasdair Forbes and working with John Magee over the years, the avenue of reaching out to island residents and those interested in all things Phuket was an amazing opportunity.

No doubt it’s a sign of age to wax poetic over the decline of hard copy newspapers but I still get enormous gratification reading a printed daily, that is when I can find time between having my eyes glued to my smartphone.

Thanks Phuket Gazette for a very fine ride. As an aside the online news site is set to continue and also cooperate with The Nation.
