Run Lola Run Upcoming Events

Category: Tourism, Posted:23 May 2009 | 10:44 am

It's indeed summer in Phuket (aka the season formerly known as low and slow), with hotels looking to boost tourism with sporting events. Two of these for runners are coming up and certainly it's going to be a mixture of fire and water, depending on the heat or the rain so come prepared for anything.
On this coming Sunday May 24th at the JW Marriott in Mai Khao will have a 10.5k mini marathon and also fun runs of 3.5k and 2.5k. Registration opens 5:00 am with races starting from 6:00 am onwards. Those wishing to participate can enter today at Turtle Village near the resort or on the day of the race. Proceeds go to the Mai Khan Marine Turtle Foundation.
Next is the Laguna Phuket International Marathon which is sponsored by global brand Nike on Sunday June 14th. Participation is up 100% from last year with over 4000 runners in attendance from over 40 countries. There is a mix of races from the full 42k marathon, half marathon, 10.5k run, 5k fun run and 2k kids run. Online registration is now open until June 5th at www.phuketmarathon.com
Kudos to both the JW Marriott and Laguna Phuket for organizing these events which contribute to the islands economic recovery and attract tourists in rising numbers.
