Spain Gains Diverted Snowbirds

Category: Tourism, Posted:24 Mar 2011 | 06:00 am

The strained Spanish tourism market has received a much needed boost through a redirect of European snow birds.
Traditionally visitors from Scandinavia, Germany and the UK have gone to Egypt and Tunisia for cut rate holidays; but given the current political events in the region they have opted to travel to Spain.
According to figures released by the Tourism Ministry recent increases have been the first gains posted in the market in more than a year and a half.
Mass tourism tends to be a fickle friend or foe, and looking at Phuket as it moves into large Chinese and Russian segments it's important to remember they can change destinations as fast as they decided to come in the first place.
