The Joys Of Travel (Not)

Category: Tourism, Posted:25 Aug 2013 | 11:31 am

Sunday Bloody Sunday. It's a travel day, with my ultimate destination being Jakarta. While living in Phuket certainly has its perks, point-to-point travel to certain destinations can prove a daunting task.
Today will feature a painful stopover in Kuala Lumpur at the budget terminal and two flights on AirAsia. Yes my love hate affair with Big Red continues.
Early morning at Phuket International Airport is not a pretty sight. Clearing immigration the departure lounge is strewn with bodies laying everywhere resembling the fallout from a nuclear attack. Never mind, I find out that a late night charter to an Eastern European nation has been delayed.
I have the fear though, the passengers look starved, annoyed and potentially capable of anything. My pathway is straight to Coffee World, which of course is closed. Requiring immediate caffeinating I backtrack to plan B.
Finally the aircraft is about to board as a rush of humanity ensues that is frightening, yet somehow exhilarating. A mini fight club where you can elbow strangers with pure immunity.
On board, sitting in the exit row, and seeing an endless flow of seat crashers try to enter the hallowed hall of hot seatdom goes on for most of the flight. The flights attendants are well prepared and finally it turns nasty with an 18 year old lady in red snarling, "move now or else" to an uncooperative passenger.
Indeed Sunday Bloody Sunday, and its not even noon yet.
