Unlicensed Condo Hotel Ordered To Close

Author: Bill Barnett. Category: Hotels. Posted: 11th Oct 2016

Making national news in Thailand both the Bangkok Post and Nation newspapers have  reported that the Eastin Tan Hotel in Chiang Mai has been ordered to close by the government.

The hotel had undergone an EIA process as a condominium but later converted use to a hotel, and was not granted permission to operate on that basis.

A manager of the hotel has been charged by officials with illegally operating the 128 room property.

For the operator Eastin hotels, the situation amplifies an environment of risk for management groups when hotel license issues occur.

There is a continued push throughout Thailand over unlicensed accommodation, particularly in the condo hotel segment.
