Unlicensed Villas And Hotels On Rise

In Phuket the inability to license residential villa projects which compete with hotels and condo hotel operations continues to be a contentious issue.
Picking through a piece by Jack Daniels in Balidiscovery.com recently thesame issue is now being championed by the Indonesia's Hotel and Restaurant Association.
Unfair price competition has been cited in growing angst by licensed operations, where government tax drives up an add on to rental rates.
Like Thailand though villas in many cases are unable to obtain hotel licenses so even if businesses wish to pay, there is inadequate legal framework to do so.
Is it a disconnect? Absolutely.
