Water Saving Investment Named Geohumus

Category: , Posted:25 Aug 2010 | 06:00 am

This in from our friend Andreas Ruthe from TCM Asia who writes us

“Coming back on call for Phuket landscape and garden designers to revisit their chosen plants for landscaping I want to highlight an absolute great green invention to save up to 30% water and plenty labor effort in landscaping.
Geohumus International GmbH has developed an innovative technology to save water in the form of a soil additive. The company thus provides an important impetus for solutions to resolve potential conflicts coming with climate change, global population growth and water shortages. The increasing cost of water worldwide will also help boost the use of Geohumus' water storing granulates. Geohumus International has received numerous national and international environmental, innovative and technological awards since its founding in 2005.
Such an innovation is especially noteworthy now for the 17th annual UN-sponsored World Water Day in 2010 with its theme "Clean Water For a Healthy World.” The United Nations uses this event to focus global attention on fresh water and to push for the "sustainable management of freshwater resources.”
Geohumus also has a responsibility to make a valuable contribution to the environment and to sensitive a society on how it uses water. That helps explain why Geohumus already enjoys a good reputation in countries and areas already threatened by growing deserts. On the Arabian Peninsula, Geohumus' granulates have been used as soil additives for rows of palm trees and even large date palm plantations.
Universities in Giessen, Germany, and Ismaelia, Egypt, are using Geohumus for Egyptian mango plantations, while in Welzow, Germany, arid places have used Geohumus to re-cultivate their region.
More than 70% of the worldwide fresh water resources are used for agriculture, producing both food and raw materials. Increasing efficiency is absolutely necessary in this area, in order to meet future challenges,”Landscape architects and cemetery gardeners using these revolutionary granulates save on average one-third of their watering. Geohumus helps avoid drought while supporting healthier plants and trees with improved root penetration. Thanks to its combination of organic und mineral substances, the structurally stable high-performance granulates can absorb up to 40-times its own weight in water.
A mixture of one percent Geohumus added to garden soil is sufficient to clearly improve its water retention capability. An organic super absorber is responsible for its storage of water available at the roots. The granulates expand as they absorb water. The moisture is stored directly at the plant roots and given up as needed. The mineral substances provide a structural stability to the soil, even as they hinder the building of a blocking gel layer when water is absorbed. That is a major difference between Geohumus and previous Super Absorbers. In addition, users of the innovative soil additive also reduce their fertilizer usage, as it reduces the washing out so nutrients are more efficiently used. Geohumus is non-toxic for both humans and animals, as several toxicological and environmental studies have proven. The granulates dissolve and degenerate into stone dust, CO2 and water after five to ten years.
Geohumus is a patented soil additive composed of 25% super absorbent and 75% finely ground lava stone. The end product results from the polymerization of acrylic acid with ground lava stone, clay and silicates. Its effectiveness has been proven in several scientific studies: After mixing in Geohumus with the soil you will observed improved plant growth as well as better germination. And water seepage will clearly be reduced.
The advantages of Geohumus at a glance: Highly efficient use of water; Can continually absorb and release water; Stable structure, without any blocking gel layer; Non-toxic and biodegradable; Reduces the need for fertilizer, protects the ground water; Effective for 3-5 years; primary soil improvement.
