Will Malaysia's YTL Manage Chedi Phuket?

Category: Hotels, Posted:12 Oct 2009 | 06:56 am

There is much conjecture on the island regarding the change of management at one of the island leading hotels The Chedi. While Singapore based luxury operator GHM recently ceased operating the property and the departure of General Manager Daniel Meury; there has been no official announcement as of yet on the resort going forward.
At the same time speculation is rife that a shareholder in the property Malaysia's YTL Corporation may be eyeing management for its fledgling chain. In September of this year YTL announced the hiring of well regarded hotelier James McBride to head hospitality operations. Viewing the portfolio of the company matching the Chedi are such high end destination properties as Pangkor Laut Resort and Tanjong Jara which seem a natural fit for an upscale chain offering.
In the meantime the group has recruited ex Banyan Tree sales and marketing head Edwin Yeow and is looking to establish a development section. As for now we can mark this one under an ongoing storyline.
