AirAsia Kills Off Japan JV
The much-touted Japanese venture between AirAsia and ANA (All Nippon Airways) looks to wind up the bin.
Call it a failure to communicate or else a non -alignment of interests, but in plane talk the marriage is over.
While the market had been viewing the low-cost potential of Japan with envy, ultimately the JV will be a write off at what the financial press is estimating at USD36 million.
Two key challenges for the doom LCC have been the high cost of operation and an inability to stage domestic flights from the key hub of Haneda.
