Bali Hotels Limit Fallout from Jakarta Bombings

Category: Tourism, Posted:30 Jul 2009 | 09:23 am

According to the Indonesian Government no travel warnings have been issued by foreign governments on travel to the country with the exception of travel advisories. Despite this the Association of Indonesia Hotels and Restaurants has stated the occupancies have dropped throughout the country. Reports in the press cite that numbers are down in Jakarta by 20-30%.
While Bali is in the midst of high season for travelers from Australia and Europe, most of the impact has been on the cancellation of conferences or government sponsored events on the resort isle. For the most part the popular destination has been effected by similar declines as most of Asia including regional gateways and resort areas such as Phuket.
Investigations linking the Jakarta blast to the terrorism offshoot Jemaah Islamiyah have reportedly linked the Jakarta and Bali bombings with possible trails leading to Malaysia and through onto other Asian neighbors.
