As Asia continues to see the low-cost airline sector change the region's aviation game, the question for Thailand is how important is the segment?

I love looking at tourism related facts and figures, and a recent news piece in the Bangkok Post laid it out like this -

In 2014 LCC's carried nearly 40 million passengers through the county's six main airports, and the year-on-year increase was nearly 24%.

LCC's account for 44% of all passenger traffic and close to 40% of total aircraft movements.

Domestic versus international passengers on LCC's is roughly two to one.

As for Thai Airway's current financial challenges, expect continued turbulence as the legacy carrier continues to see market share challenged in no uncertain terms.
