Indonesia Beating Thailand in Airport Modernization
Southeast Asia's largest economy Indonesia is driving the government to spur massive investment into the transportation and tourism infrastructure sector.
Over USD650 million has been set aside to upgrade airports in the key Indonesian destinations of Bali, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Balikpapen and Banjarmasin.
These improvements are expected to come online over the next two years and will be aimed at modernizing facilities and expand handling and passenger services.
Meanwhile Phuket's own airport upgrade continues to crawl at slow but steady pace, while government debate continues on a number of AoT operating airports in Thailand which remain firmly stuck in the red (this means operating losses).
