A high profile scandal involving Thai Airways Executive Chairman Wallop Bhukkanasut has led to his resignation. Reports alleged that the airline executive had used his position to accompany over 30 bags tallying in at a nearly 400 kilos on a flight to Bangkok from Japan late last year.
The incident comes at a time when the airline has been struggling to cut cost and took hard hits on fuel hedging which have resulted in substantial losses for the national carrier.
